about hyph-n
Named after the smallest thing that holds ideas together.
A hyphen draws no attention to itself. It sits between two words and makes them one, and without it the meaning falls apart. That felt like the right name for this work.
HYPH-N grew out of years spent on both sides of a divide the industry treats as permanent: mechanical engineering on one side, software on the other. We met product designers who couldn’t script their way out of a repetitive task, and developers who had never read an engineering drawing. We kept ending up in the middle, modeling the part and building the tool that tracks it, drawing the assembly and writing the connector that sends it to the ERP.
That became the company: one studio, fluent in both languages, doing the work that lives between them. We keep the operation small on purpose. Each project gets senior attention, each client talks to the person doing the work, and no project moves to a junior team after the contract is signed.
- [ precise ]measured twice, built once.
- [ plain-spoken ]no jargon, no black boxes.
- [ honest ]we’ll talk you out of work you don’t need.
